The Mohammed bin Rashid School of Communications\u2019 Journalism student Lara Sabri, studying at the American University in Dubai, has received first place in the beginners\u2019 category at the Kateb-Maktub competition, the committee announced on their Instagram page last Friday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The competition aimed to enrich content about Arabic books and authors on the English Wikipedia, where Sabri published 24 articles, and will be receiving a cash prize of AED1,837 ($500).  <\/p>\n\n\n

Sabri\u2019s articles included authors like Abdullah bin Idris and Ahmed Mohammed Jamal, and books written by Palestinian fiction writer Ghassan Kanafani and Saudi Arabian author Ghazi Al Gosaibi. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI would like to thank the Kateb-Maktub team for this opportunity to contribute in delivering content about Arabic books and authors to an international audience,\u201d  Sabri told MBRSC Post. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The competition lasted for a month starting from 18th<\/sup> July until 18th<\/sup> August 2022,  with the contribution of 14 participants. The participants were split into two categories: the beginners\u2019 category, whose number of edits on Wikipedia were less than 500, and the experts\u2019 category, who exceeded 500 edits. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The articles published were judged by the amount written and whether they met Wikipedia\u2019s publishing standards. Contributors had a maximum of 48 hours to publish selected articles starting from the date they chose the author or book in, where 100 articles were published in total.  Prizes for winners from both categories consisted of AED1,837 ($500) for first place, AED1,469 ($400) for second place, and AED1,102 ($300) for third place. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was the second edition of Kateb-Maktub\u2019s competition, the first edition held in 2021, where according to Kateb-Maktub, 2000 articles about authors were published on Arabic Wikipedia.
