International Centre for Culinary Arts Bake-Off Dedicated to Game of Thrones

The second edition of the International Centre for Culinary Arts (ICCA) Bake-Off competition was dedicated to the fantasy-drama TV show, Game of Thrones. The event was held at the Dubai Media City Amphitheatre, part of Taste of Dubai 2019, last Saturday.
Each baker was expected to incorporate elements of the show, which surrounds monarchies, war, and dragons, in a manner that told a story. With over two-hundred applicants from around the world, it all came down to twenty-four bakers.
The event began with an introduction of the six judges, all of which are part of the ICCA, including celebrity chef, French pâtissier Eric Lanlard.
Withstanding the test of creativity, six cakes were selected. Based on taste alone, three of the six were later disqualified during the final round for “lack of originality,” and the use of cake mixes: “Come on guys…we can smell a packet of mix from miles away,” said Chef Lanlard.

The event ended with the announcement of Nayana Pavate as the winner of the 2019 ICCA Bake-Off, with the prize being Dhs17,000 worth of pastry classes at the ICCA.
The winning cake titled “The Win or Die Cake” was made of star anise with spiced chocolate flavors, the cake as adventurous as the show. “I feel great, this is unbelievable,” Pavate said to the MBRSC Post.
A theme like this has surely left people with big questions in mind: what will next year’s theme be? Will it be as exciting as this? Will it be better than this? There’s only one way to find out; we wait.
